Conocí a Patricia Baez en forma accidental.
Si mal no recuerdo, fué en el invierno de 1984, al salir del banco Comermex me había sorprendido ver en el vestíbulo del edificio una exposición de obras de diferentes tamaños en vidrio. Al ver la bella obra me dí cuenta del valor del artista e interesada por conocer al personaje, busqué la cédula y no tenía nombre del autor.

Comenté con mi hija la falta imperdonable de los organizadores, reclamé a los empleados ¿Por qué no ponían el nombre del artista? En ese instante, alguien me tocó la espalda. Mi sorpresa fué manifiesta, al ver una mujer jóven de presencia inteligente y elegante, me decía: "Yo soy la autora de esas obras".

Desde entonces he seguido los pasos de esta artista de gran proyección, en un campo y en una técnica tan difíciles. su trabajo corresponde al desarrollo de la tecnología moderna; no se trata aquí de una técnica definida, más bien son varias: esculturas monumentales de vidrio, pinturas, esmaltes o grabados sobre vidrio. Es un conjunto de varias técnicas.

El aspecto formal, podría decirse, es una realidad visible en un mundo fantástico, donde las figuras humanas, animales y orgánicas se funden en un caleidoscopio de hermosos paisajes macrocósmicos o macro-orgánicos que hacen resaltar el arte objeto de Patricia Baez. La artista se evade de todo sentido de realidad para crear su realidad dentro de un autismo casi delirante y de esta forma recrear su propia subbjetividad en el más puro sentido, el de ella. Como consecuencia, un arte puro, fuera de toda influencia de corrientes externas, haciendo un nuevo trabajo estético con abstracciones formales creando en el vidrio un mensaje lírico y expresivo. La forma, el color, los ácidos oxidantes, el buril y las fresadoras enriquecen sus obras conjugando la materia y sus cualidades con el espíritu creativo del artista, confirmando su propia fisonomía, su expresión y el estilo mismo que caracteriza a Patricia Baez: una sensibilidad armoniosa, es decir una conjugación de su sensibilidad y su cálida belleza plástica.

Both the time and place of my first meeting with Patricia Baez were unusual.
I was leaving the bank one morning in the winter of 1984 and while rushing through the main hallway I came across an art exhibition of glass forms.
It seemed to me something different and captivating and I stopped and lingered along the line of exhibits. My attention was held.

Standing there in front of the works I realized that what I was seeing was something truly original, but I couldn´t find the name of the artist either below the works or at the main desk. Nothing infuriates me more than that and so I went to complain to the bank employees: "Why is there no name on these?" I asked pointing at the giant figures and forms. at that moment a hand touched me on the shoulder and turning round I was standing face to face with a tall intelligent looking woman. "I am the artist", she said. That was our first meeting.

Since that day I have followed the progress of this artist through the different stages of her astistic development. She has never used a single means of expression, or a single technique. Her only influence is modern technology and the changes it undergoes. She will use monumental glass sculptures, paintings or glass engravings to express herself. she wil find in the hard objective reality of progress something personal.

Patricia builds a visible re-creation of the fantastic. Human figures, animals, organic forms fuse into a macrocosmic landscape. Her objects evade the real, and proyect a world of the autistic, the delirious. It might be fantasy but it is something so purely and wholly hers.

The forms and colours, the use of acids, chisels and drills are tools of her rich creative spirit; these things she uses to confirm her own individuality. They are means to explore herself and her extraordinary self-perception. there is something lyrical an alive in the sensitivity and beauty of her work.
